The cost is $30 per entry, and you can enter as many videos as you wish. According to Maryann Arrien of the Alliance of Community Media of New York there are vast areas of New York State that have either no Local Community Access TV channels, or an inadequate number of channels and staffing to support their operations, putting New York State residents at a disadvantage compared to other states in the North East Region when it comes to seeing their local government and school meetings, as well as local cultural programming on Community TV channels.

On Saturday, April 18, 2015 there was a Roundtable Discussion at Schenectady’s Open Stage Media at Proctors entitled “The Future of Community Media in New York State” that concerned the future of local Public, Educational and Government channels in New York State. A short 21 minute highlights video version entitled “The Issues”, a 1.5 minute trailer as well as the full-length 90 minute discussion are all available for viewing on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVFTs8Mx99TsgCi2zhtd2LQ and for download at links listed on https://acmny.org/video-on-demand/.

The Future of Community Media in NY State Roundtable Discussion covered many issues including the dearth of local Public, Educational and Government Access stations in New York State, new ideas in funding Community Media with the changing video distribution technology, the impact of new jobs in Community Media for New York, the positive effect of local access on our communities, issues of parity of access and quality with commercial television, transparency in government and the future role of Public Access in our State.

The ACM North East Region has been given the opportunity to NY Residents  to apply forl $500 in Grassroots Scholarship money to attend the 2013 ACM-NE Conference & Trade Show on Oxtober 10-11, 2013 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel & Conference Center in Sturbridge, MA.

ACM New York is also funding some scholarships on it’s own, SO, as long as you’re filling out one application, go ahead and click fill out a NY State Scholarship Application.

Click HERE to download the ACMNY State application.  You can file them both!  Who knows, you may get additional help from ACMNY if the ACM-NE Region only funds you partially.  (Please note that the finished applications are e-mailed or FAXed to different places!)  The deadline for the ACMNY application is later – September 16, 2013.  But don’t delay, send it in now so that you can plan your travel and take advantage of early registration for the event. (registration fees to the conference go up on September 19th)   All scholarship monies will be awarded by reimbursement of your paid receipts, so be sure to print them out.

Don’t miss this opportunity to win a scholarship to this great ACM North East Regional Fall Conference.  If you need travel expenses as well, such as hotel, gas & tolls, do mention that, especially in your ACMNY application.  You do not necessarily have to be a member of the ACM.

As of our last Board Meeting on January 18, 2013, ACM New York is offering several Grassroots Scholarships to go to the ACM-NE Region Fall Conference and Trade Show.  You can apply for a either a one day or two day scholarship.  The ACM may be looking to invest in your training for the good of the sustainability and/or growth of Community Media in NY State.  Please note that you do not have to be an ACM member* to apply for or receive a scholarship from ACMNY!

The scholarship application is available HERE.  Feel free to add a page to expound on what benefit the training could bring you and/or your area.  You can submit it electronically by e-mailing the fill-in form back to arrien@optonline.net.  Or you can scan and e-mail it.  FAX is possible, but less reliable.  Those chosen to receive a scholarship will receive it in the form of a reimbursement check after the conference has been attended.  You must register yourself and pay either online or at the door.  The deadline for the scholarship has not been set yet.  Winners will be notified as early as possible before the conference.  Additional travel expenses may be awarded in some cases, depending on need.
